Season: Sporting can't wait to end their very long season!
Thursday 10 May 2012
After winning their first two games with a combined score 6-2 under .500 teams, Sporting added a great performance against Korabi in their 3rd match coming back from being down 4-1 to take a point from the table leaders. With 3 games remaining Sporting looked to finish their season above .500. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. 2 red cards in the match against Korabi mixed with AWFUL officiating and a sprinkle of cheating from Mr.Dennehys caused Sporting to lose their 4th league game against Mr.Dennehys this year. Two more red cards during the Dennehys match plus the Bike Marathon this past Sunday contributed to the 8-0 pummeling from FC Gwardia. It has been a complete turnaround of the season. After being undefeated in their first 3 games they lose their next two with a combined score of 0-11. All the Sporting players have fulfilled their suspensions and finally have a full squad for Sundays match against Missile FC. Sporting have never beaten Missile in 5 tries. Sporting is hoping to end their season on a high note in preparation for their state cup quarter-final match against Mineola Portugese (Reserves) on May 20th!!! LET'S GO SPORTING!!!
D'
Arpino State Cup: Wait is over, Sporting know their opponent!
Sunday 22 April 2012
Sporting are undefeated this year. They began this year with a win over New Amsterdam United back on March 18th and haven't looked back. They won their first two games of the restart and drew away against group best Korabi 4-4 after being down at the end of the first half 4-1. The team has shown tremendous character and skill in the past 4 games. They have 3 games remaining with 2 of them being at home. Sporting are looking to finish above .500 which would be a great accomplishment considering how the season started. However, although finishing with a winning record is important the whole organization is focused on winning the D'Arpino State Cup. Sporting are 2 wins away from going to the finals. As of this morning Sporting did not know who their opponent would be. The reserves teams of the top 1st division teams of the CSL and LISFL played today and it was just reported that Mineola Portuguese of the LISFL edged Greek American by the narrowest margin, 1-0, to book a date with Sporting Astoria. They will be hosting Sporting in the qtr-final round scheduled to be played on May 20th. Good luck Sporting and keep it up!!! Lets go Sporting!!!

Wednesday 9 February 2012
Sporting are 4 games below .500. They have a small margin of error if they wish to finish above .500. Many would think that the season is lost. It actually isn't. These group of guys will not give up their hope of finishing group runners up and they have changed their luck in their other competition, the D'Arpino State Cup, by making the final 8. The players are keeping busy playing various indoor tournaments. Sporting is set to get back to work by the end of February - weather permitting. Sporting have strengthened their lineup by resigning key players that will give them an edge over their competition this year. Good luck Sporting!

D'Arpino State Cup: Sporting looking past Istria reserve team!
Saturday 12 November 2011 Even though Sporting have not won a league game since week 3, things feel different in the D'Arpino State Cup. Sporting dismantled Port Jeffereson 1st division reserve team 6-3 in the first round on Oct.23rd. A much improved Sporting team is looking to continue its good form against another LISFL club, this time it is Istria FC another 1st division reserve team. Sporting have made some key additions to the squad to find the right balance of players. So far it hasn't produced a win but against Korabi in week 6 Sporting put up a great fight against the undefeated group leaders. Sporting will host the round of 16 this Sunday at Randall's Island field 51 at 10am. Good luck Sporting!

CSL 2011-2012 Season: Field of Nightmares!
Monday 4 October 2011 Sporting were initially scheduled to play at Sloatsburg yesterday, the home of Missile FC. The game time was scheduled for 9am. But on Saturday morning they got a call from the league wondering if it would be alright to play at Randalls Island Field 74 and at 3pm instead. Sporting had the option of postponing since Missile FC couldn't supply a home field. Well Ed Romero unafraid of the bad results on that field decided to play on. Today he is probably lamenting his decision. Sporting crashed out to winless Missile FC 5-3. Click HERE for game recap!

CSL 2011-2012 Season: Sporting have found their form!
Monday 26 September 2011 Sporting has bounced back from their season opening loss winning their last two games. In week 2 Sporting outscored Cosmos 5-3 and in week 3 Sporting defeated Partizani 3-2. Both games were played in Randalls Island. Sporting are slowly fine tuning their game. Offensively Sporting has scored 11 goals, 2nd best in the division. However defensively Sporting is the exact opposite. They have allowed 11 which is third worst in the division. Sporting has some tough match ups ahead and hopefully their defense won't be an issue. In the coming weeks Sporting will play Korabi and Gwardia both in the top half of the group. Victories against these teams could put Sporting in a great situation. --------------------------------------------------
SASC: Sporting's Ed Romero appointed as Metro 1 Chairman!
Tuesday 16 August 2011 Sporting's top executive, Ed Romero, was appointed as Metro 1 chairman by CSL president Peter Strumpf. Ed will be responsible for managing the division and reporting on any important news or events to the board and the league. This is what Ed Romero has wanted for some time. Not only had he wanted to get on the board of the CSL but to contribute by being division chairman. Currently the club is undergoing changes to free up Ed Romero's time for his new position with the club. At the moment Sporting Astoria SC is scheduled to being the season on September 11th against Amsterdam. Due to the bad weather and Ed's new position in the league the club hasn't been able to sign any new players and renew some of their current players. The next couple of weeks will be challenging for the organization to be ready for the start of the season. --------------------------------------------------
CSL: Summer AGM annouces Ed Romero as trustee to the CSL executive board!
Tuesday 2 August 2011
This year's AGM was held last night at Three Monkeys Bars in Manhattan, sponsors of Lansdowne Boys of the 1st Division. The AGM concluded with a finale regarding the drama that had plagued the league all season. Eric Butte resigned as president and Peter Strumpf was voted back in after winning against first time presidential candidate Oliver Papraniku from NYC Albania. In other news, the emphasis on the night was rule changes and cash! Many new rules were voted in that came with harsh fine stipulations. Ed Romero's only rule change received very little support and was not voted in as expected. He wanted to put an a cap on the amount of teams clubs could have per division. The night concluded with Ed Romero along with 8 others being nominated to the Board of Trustees. Ed Romero is currently also in the run for Metro Division Chairman. However this position gets appointed by the current president. The season is set to start Sept. 11, 2011. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() visitors since 03/10/2007
